In de hersenschors ligt een cruciale plek waar het vermogen van de bewuste waarneming huist. Bij hooggevoelige mensen vertoont dat gebied een grotere activiteit waardoor het soms voelt alsof zij met ontblote zenuwen rondlopen. In mijn geval kan het kleinste detail een enorme impact hebben. De infraroodfilm in mijn fototoestel werkt als een tweede 'eiland', los van mijn lichaam, dat me in staat stelt bepaalde informatie te stockeren om ze later een plaats te geven. Op die manier word ik niet constant overweldigd door mijn omgeving. Alle beelden in deze reeks werden genomen in Platio De Aro, een Spaans kuststadje waar ik van kindsbeen af met mijn familie op vakantie ga.

Deep in the cerebral cortex, composed of folded grey matter, lies a region of the brain with an important role in consciousness; a person’s awareness or perception of something. People diagnosed with being hypersensitive show greater activity in this particular part of the brain. It can feel like you are living with your nerves exposed, and I for one get aroused or stimulated by the smallest details around me. The infrared-film in my camera functions as a second insula, outside of my body, that records stimuli so that I am able to organize it later and so that I don’t get overwhelmed by what is taking place around me. All images in this series are taken in Platja De Aro, Spain, a coastal town where my family and me have been going on vacation ever since I was a young girl.
