Wie is die vreemde vogel genaamd Jonas Veirman? Wat doet hij precies? De beste manier om dit uit te doeken te doen is vanop het podium; daar immers voelt hij zich thuis. Voor zijn afstudeerproject kiest hij ervoor om een set te spelen met (steengoede!) muzikanten die hij op het Conservatorium leerde kennen. Het concept is simpel: neem leuke muziek en een toffe groep vrienden en beleef een mooie avond. Nothing more, nothing less...
De muziek is gekozen door de groep. Naast traditie zal ook zijn Scandinavische ervaring door zijn Erasmusproject in Göteborg (Zweden) aan bod komen, net als iets moderner werk. Wat aanvankelijk een experiment was om te kijken wat wel en niet werkt binnen deze bezetting, groeit hoogstwaarschijnlijk uit tot een project om voor te zetten na de jaren achter de schoolbanken. Zoals Sinatra het zou zeggen: "Come Fly With Me".

Jonas Veirman (°1991) is a young Belgian (jazz)vocalist, pianist and saxophonist who studied Jazz Vocals at the School Of Arts, Royal Conservatory of Ghent, Department of Performing Music Jazz/Pop and at the Folkhögskolan för Music och Scene in Gothenburg, Sweden. His most important tutors were Kristen Cornwell (AUS), Christophe Devisscher (BE), Anders Jormin (SE), Thomas Jäderlund (SE), Marc Godfroid (BE), Sofie Verbruggen (BE), Chrystel Wautier (BE), Anu Junnonen (FIN), Pierre Vaiana (IT), Maarten Weyler (BE), Leon L’Hoëst (NL), etc.

He has had the pleasure of performing alongside of some of the greatest Belgian and international jazz- and popmusicians such as Mark Turner (US), Bert Joris, Marc Godfroid, Lode Mertens, Frank Deruytter, Steven Delannoye, Vincent Pierins, Didier Deruytter, Hendrik Braeckman, Barbara Dex, Jim Cole, Gunter Verspecht (Stash), etc.

To become a better musician, Jonas took some masterclasses with several acknowledged international artists in the jazz- folk- and popgenre. Amongst them are The King’s Singers (UK), Bert Joris (BE) Peter Erskine (US), Becca Stevens (US), John Scofield (US), Jef Neve (BE), Robin Verheyen (BE), Dee Daniels (US), Bob Mover (US), Gary Smulyan (US), Dick Oatts (US), Jeremy Pelt (US), Henry Grimes (US), Jean-Baptiste Bossangela (CGO), Jasper Blom (NL), Wouter Vandenabbeele (BE) and Eva De Roovere (BE).

In the past, Jonas has been working with both smaller and larger ensembles. One of the things he enjoys very much (if not the most!), is performing with bigbands. In the past he has performed with orchestra’s and bigbands as The Concord Jazz Ensemble, The Ghent Youth Jazz Orchestra, Sugarfree Bigband, Bigband ’86, The Bigband of the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, etc.

Making music and traveling never go without meeting new people, and this keeps it all even more interesting.

Who is that cat called Jonas Veirman? And what is it he does? That becomes clearest on the stage, as that is where he feels at home. For his graduation project he decided to perform a set with (brilliant) musicians he met at the Conservatory. The concept is simple: add great music to a group of friends, and serve a beautiful night. Nothing more, nothing less …
The music was chosen collectively. In addition to traditional and more modern pieces, Jonas’ Scandinavian Erasmus experiences will also make themselves felt. What started out as an experiment to see what would and would not work in the context of this particular line-up has grown into something that might well outlast the members’ Conservatory time. As Sinatra would have said, ‘Come Fly With Me’.
