Ilulissaq is een beeldverhaal over het dagelijkse leven in één van de meest geïsoleerde plaatsen op de wereld, Groenland. Ik sliep bij een aantal families om zo hun leven van dichtbij te observeren en hun persoonlijke verhalen te verzamelen. De reeks geeft een intiem beeld van de steden Sisimiut, Nuuk en Ilulissat die door de Deense kolonisatie een sterke evolutie onderging. Hierdoor zijn de Groenlandse Inuit op zoek naar een nieuwe balans tussen hun oorspronkelijke cultuur, die in harmonie is met de natuur, en de razendsnelle intrede van westerse waarden en normen. Het is een zoektocht waarbij de Groenlanders het risico lopen om onderweg hun identiteit en zichzelf te verliezen.

Ilulissaq is a visual narrative about daily life in one of the most isolated places on earth: Greenland. I stayed with a number of families there to observe their life and record their personal stories. The series paints an intimate picture of the towns of Sisimiut, Nuuk and Ilulissat that saw a tremendous evolution because of Danish colonization, forcing the Greenland Inuit to search for a new balance between their traditional culture — that adheres to the ideal of harmony with nature — and the rapid introduction of Western values and customs. It is a search in which the Greenlanders run the risk of losing their identity and self along the way.
