Tijdens je rondleiding in je bibliotheek vertelde ik je over mijn liefde voor verzamelde brieven en dagboeken van schrijvers. Ze omzeilen het grote Romantische verhaal, en geven onbewust een gefragmenteerd, dieper, gelaagder en mooier inzicht. Er lijkt me niets passenders dan een open brief als openingsspeech voor je bibliotheek.

Geachte lezer,

Met dit officieelogenschijnlijk banale objecten. Wolkenencyclopediën, patronen en naief-concrete deconstructies van taal schikt ze als kunstenaar-archivaris in landkaarten. Situationistische mentale kaarten die het pad beschrijven voor safari’s doorheen verwondering.

Ik haal graag namen aan als George Perec en John Cage. Kunstenaars die het concreet-wonderlijke meesterlijk documenteerden. Ze bevrijdden zich van groot-romantische emoties, en in hun concrete poëzie toonden ze elk het directe, de materie en het reële. De bibliotheek ademt dezelfde poëzie. Elk deeltje van haar oeuvre staat op zich als een document binnenin een prachtig geheel van intuïtieve en zen-meditatieve anti-kunst.

During your tour of the library I told you about my fondness for collections of letters and diaries by writers. They skirt the grand Romantic narrative, and surreptitiously yield a fragmented, deeper, more layered and appealing insight. Nothing seems more fitting for the inaugural address of your library than an open letter.

Dear reader,

With this official seemingly banal objects. As artist-archivist, she arranges cloud atlases, patterns and naively concrete deconstructions of language in geographic maps. Situationist mental maps that describe the way for safaris of amazement.

I like to cite names like George Perec and John Cage. Artists who documented the concretely unfamiliar in a masterly way. They rid themselves of high-romantic emotions, and showed in their concrete poetry the direct, matter, and the actual. The library breathes that same poetry. Each item in it is a self-contained document within a magnificent whole of intuitive, Zen anti-art.
