When you enter my workshop, you can immediately understand that my passion for the still life is not just an artistic choice, but also a personal means to analyze reality. It is as if I try to live in my own work, in order to fully understand it. In our times we can own objects from any period and any place, but not one of them is able to tell about the place it comes from, so ultimately we can't be sure of its origins. It is not the subject as such that can make a work more or less interesting but its aesthetic sense and pictorial qualities. This also goes when the medium is video or installation.
The representation of an object is merely an excuse for the act of representing, or painting. Painting thus becomes the way and the subject-object, and the still life is not just a representation of an object, but a way of thinking the world.
