Benjamin Maneyrol

  • For my graduation project I will play both solo pieces for different clarinets and chamber music pieces in trio and quintet with ensemble Fractales. My programme matches the general direction of our ensemble: to play new pieces, work with young composers, and perform contemporary classical pieces.

    - 'Assonnances II' (1989) by Michael Jarrell for clarinet bass solo: this piece is a 'classic' for contemporary bass. It contains a lot of difficulties, making it a challenging piece to perform.
    - 'Pungi-Ophis-Zyclos' (2015) by Gianni Bozzola for clarinet solo: this work was presented to me during by the young Italian composer. I've been really interested to work with young emerging composers, experimenting together and communicating about music and performance. This will be a Belgian premiere.
    - 'Gelöschte Lieder' (1999) by Enno Poppe for flute, clarinet, cello, violin and piano: due to its complexity, this piece is both very interesting and challenging to perform. As we always play without a conductor, it has been quite tricky to work on this. But, it has also been very enriching, forcing us to be really comfortable with polyrhythmics, getting further into the connection between us.
-‘Ftera’ (2015) by Yann Robin for bass clarinet, viola and piano: we wanted to play this piece to discover more about saturationism and all the special techniques that come with it. It was quite a challenge at first to figure out the score, as it is mostly graphical and far from traditional writing.
