In hoeverre kan men gebruik makend van conventionele reproductietechnieken (cfr. houtsnede, ets, steen- en zeefdruk) tot een dialoog komen binnen het hedendaags kunstdiscours? Kan de moderne grafiek zich actueel opstellen zonder de esthetiek van haar beeldtaal te verloochenen?
Mijn zoektocht is er één naar de balans tussen extremen, naar de mogelijkheid om verdiensten tussen uiteenliggende media te laten overlappen. In mijn masterproject tracht ik deze kloof te overbruggen door fotografisch materiaal als tussenstadium te gebruiken. De vele uiteenlopende perspectieven van het technische beeld bieden ruimte aan een artistieke invulling. Zoals bij elk goed onderbouwd kunstwerk is het uiteindelijke doel om tot een evenwicht te komen, vooral wanneer het fotobeeld door meerdere verwerkingen wordt geloodst. Elke stap dient te resulteren in een positief spanningsveld. Met andere woorden elke actie die ondernomen wordt buiten het 'natuurlijke' verloop van het beeld moet een artistieke verantwoording dragen.

To what extent can conventional technologies of reproduction (e.g., woodcuts, etching, lithography or screen printing) take part in a dialogue in the discourse of contemporary art? Can the present-day graphic arts be contemporary without giving up the aesthetic qualities of their visual language?
My search is one for the balance between extremes, for a possibility of merging the valuable qualities of separate media. In my master’s project, I attempt to bridge this gap with photographic materiasl as an intermediary. The many diverse perspectives of the technical image offer room for an artistic interpretation. As with any well-founded work of art, the eventual goal is to reach a balance, especially when the photographic image is processed several times. Each step is meant to result in a positive tension. In other words, each action undertaken outside the ‘natural’ process of the image must be artistically justified.
