The project illustrates one year of research in printmaking, through the analysis of the technical aspects involved in this medium. The issues discussed: facing with the rigid set of rules and limitations of the materials and the transactions that distinguish its creative process, in which way and how much these influence the relation between man and printmaking? How much these matters the creativity of the artist? Are the limits in printmaking a real obstacle to the creativity or rather the thrust for a new vision and definition of it?
At the end , the conclusions to the issues and problems I had to deal with, during my research, seem to be to me as the easiest and the most obvious. The title of the project refers to the famous apocryphal story of the "Columbus' egg" whose meaning is related to the discussion on creativity. Perhaps it’s true that many things in life are easy when you know how, the hard part is learning and being brave enough to do something new and unexpected.
This project illustrates a year of research on printmaking in which personal meditations were combined with a thorough analysis of the technical aspects of the medium. Faced with the rigid set of rules and limitations pertaining to the materials and actions that distinguish this medium, we are confronted with the question how and how much this influences the relation between man and printmaking? How does this affect the creativity of the artist? Are the limits inherent to printmaking an obstacle to creativity or rather an impetus for a new definition of creativity?
