Het afgelopen jaar werkte ik met en rond de verzameling spullen op de zolder van mijn ouders. Zij bewaarden nagenoeg alle objecten uit mijn jeugd, wat mij in staat stelde om onze persoonlijke mythen te ontleden, te visualiseren, te deconstrueren en opnieuw te monteren. Mijn complexe affiniteit met die objecten lijkt op die van het natuurvolk met de fetisj; het 'dode' object dat ergens in lang vervlogen tijden bezield is geraakt zodat het nu niet alleen een beschermende macht vertegenwoordigt maar ook een verhalende kracht in zich draagt. Met '(in)tangibles' toon ik de karakteristieken van deze ‘zoldercollectie’ door de objecten uit hun context te halen en nieuwe voorwaarden te scheppen voor hun representatie.

The past year I have worked with the stuff my parents have collected in their attic. Every conceivable object from my youth is kept there, enabling me to analyze, visualize, deconstruct and reassemble our personal myths. My complex affinity with these objects resembles that of primitive peoples with the fetish: the ‘dead’ object that once - in a distant past - got animated, so that now it not only represents a protective power, but also holds a narrative force. With ‘(in)tangibles’, I reveal the characteristics of this ‘attic collection’ by removing the objects from their context and creating new conditions for their representation.
