Immigration starts with language, an essential part of the process of integration. The longer one lives in a new country, the more one distances oneself from the native country. There is a certain liberty, a lonely freedom, comparable perhaps to an astronaut’s weightlessness. The alien. Freed of everything he is nothing. But there is no such thing as absolute freedom. All aliens are bound to their mother tongue. It is their true native country from which they can never migrate.
Inspired by my own experience of integration, I have tried to capture my language in a three-fold way. In this project, three publications display the difference between here and there, they constitute a basic element in my concept that centres around analogue photography. A sound installation completes the project and conveys the essence of language to the viewer.
